Emilia Torres Thesis Statement
I am Emilia Torres and an Art and Design major (Graphic Design). I grew up in the south side of Chicago and attended Victoria Soto High School. My interests include baking, thrifting, and gardening. As a child, I loved arts and crafts which transpired into a hobby in high school. Now, I am pursuing a career in graphic design.
Bold Cosmetics was born from a conversation I had often — regarding how exclusive the beauty industry is. As a teen, I struggled finding people that looked like me represented in toys, magazines, and other forms of media. One of my first memories of dealing with this exclusivity was when my mom would spend hours trying to find a foundation that matched her darker complexion.
I believe it’s important to reflect these beauty standards, especially today. This project has allowed me to voice my views on the beauty industry – a topic I have been passionate about ever since I could read my sister’s beauty magazines. BOLD Cosmetics is meant to be a fun and expressive brand young adults feel excited to use and support.
